About the author

The whole idea for this book started during the time leading up to my wedding. I wanted to surprise my future wife with something very unique. Like all brides to be she had very specific wishes about her wedding bouquet. I sought inspiration on the internet where I looked at bridal bouquets and realized that no matter how unique they were in choice of flowers, colors and designs they lacked something personal.
My attitude was that buying a bouquet would be too easy. I wanted to make it myself. I wanted to create a bouquet that would last for many years (if not for ever) and that would mean something to her.

My research into the anatomy of plants started when I began to dissect one flower after the other while taking notes, sketching and photographing I experimented with different types of paper to see how they reacted to water, dyeing, drying qualities and flexibility. My results were conclusive: My wife´s bridal bouquet would be made from coffee filters.

One idea took the other and my wife suggested that I should make decorations for the tables at our wedding reception. That was fine with me and I ended up making all the decorations for our wedding party from coffee filters. Even the church benches and the altar were decorated with coffee filter flowers. I can hardly express how much positive feedback I got from all the guests at the wedding and from our pastor who asked permission to leave the little bouquets that decorated the pews of the church, so that she might use them again for other occasions.

I made the bridal bouquet from white lisianthus, white Scepter d´Isle roses, plus cream colored roses with a green base. I created the perfect wedding bouquet, made exclusively from flowers and flower buds. No leaves. Everything made from coffee filters. My wife loves the bouquet. It still looks great, and serves as a memory of our love, but also of creativity and the thought that much is possible if you have the will and the interest.
